Farmers can sell produce and receive payments online

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a unified virtual market for agricultural produce here on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said his government wanted to empower farmers so that they could fix the price for their produce."A unified market is a step towards this direction as licensed traders can bid online for agriculture produces from anywhere and farmers will have the right to reject the price if they are not satisfied," he said.

Karnataka gets unified platform for commodity trade

MUMBAI,FEBRUARY 22,2014

Rashtriya e-Market Services, a joint venture between NCDEX Spot Exchange and the Karnataka government, launched a first-of-its-kind unified market platform (UMP) in Karnataka on Saturday.

The UMP will provide an electronic auction system across the state for transparent price determination.It will offer quality-based trading in Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) and online access to all APMC market functionaries.

Launch of online commodity trading in 35 APMC markets this year

BANGALORE,MAY 23,2014

For the benefit of farmers, the State government has decided to launch online trading in various commodities through the Rashtriya e-Market Services (ReMS) in 35 major Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) markets in the current financial year (2014–15).

So far, online trading has been launched in Tiptur, Arsikere, Tumkur and Chamarajanagar markets.Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Minister for Agricultural Marketing Shamanur Shivashankarappa said the Unified Market Platform (UMP) through the ReMS would be implemented in Gulbarga, Yadgir, Sedam, Gadag, Bidar, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Challakere, Tumkur and Belgaum markets on June 10.

Within a few minutes, there is an increase in the decibel levels as farmers talk excitedly to each other.No, the farmers are not watching a cricket match and are not getting worked up on a boundary or fall of wicket. Instead, they are tracking the screen for the price of their produce. Everyday at about 3pm, the screen starts flashing results of an online auction of the produce these farmers bring to the market.
